12 Random Facts About Marketing Mavens

I was recently challenged by Venti Comms to do a blog on 12 Random Facts about Marketing Mavens. Well as I am the face of Marketing Mavens, here are 12 random facts about me:

  1. I love a gadget

I love technology. Whenever there is a new gadget it is always top of my birthday or Christmas list.

  1. I fall for every marketing trick in the book

Being a marketer you might think this wouldn’t be the case, but I am a sucker for every marketing and sales trick in the book.

  1. My favourite film is Rocky

If I had to pick out of all the Rocky films, my favourite is Rocky 2 with Rocky 4 coming a close 2nd place. I have watched the films hundreds of times and every time they are on the TV I have to watch.

  1. I teach CIM courses

As well as running a digital marketing agency, I also teach Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) courses for Cambridge Marketing College. I have taught for over 10 years and love it. It helps me keep in top of all the latest trends and developments in digital marketing.

  1. I am a published author. I have written 2 marketing books

As CIM developed their digital marketing courses, I was asked to write two marketing books. You can find my 5 star rated first book on Amazon – Digital Strategy – A Guide for Marketers – it only has 1 review but at least it is a good one!

  1. All members of my family have their own business

All the members of my family own their own business. My dad has an accountancy firm – Connolly Accountants. My mum until she retired, used to run a cleaning company Helping Hands which my brother now runs. My sister has just started a mindfulness consultancy, Ashley Victoria. My wife runs a gift shop, Majic gifts.

  1. I won crew member of the year in McDonalds in 1999

20 years ago, McDonalds realised my true potential and awarded me crew member of the year. I am still proud of flipping those burgers.

  1. I fell in love with marketing when my dad told me a story about marketing.

When I was young my dad told me a story about marketing and how you do it (as he studied it at university). Ever since, I have loved it and been fascinated with it.

  1. One of my goals is to buy a house in the south of France

A goal I set last year was to save enough money to buy a house in the south of France. My plan is then to live 6 months in France and 6 months in Scotland.

  1. I like audiobooks more than reading

I like listening to books more than reading. It fits with my lifestyle listening to books travelling in the car or having a walk at lunchtime.

  1. My hobby is travelling.

I love a city break or a holiday in the sun. It is great to experience new cultures and countries.

  1. My uncle is Billy Connolly

Well – not really. It is a tale I tell to people because we have the same second name.
